A Work Week at Project Amigo is a Mexican experience like no other. Each Work Week is carefully designed to give you a balanced perspective – certainly our kids and their families have great need (the “Project” half) but they also have a rich and ancient culture into which they are keen to welcome you (the “Amigo” half.) You will spend your week working and playing in the tiny rural villages, in the beachside towns, in the migrant work camps and in the schools and the communities in which reside the heart and soul of Project Amigo- our kids! When you volunteer for a Work Week at Project Amigo, you will make a difference while building friendships to last a lifetime.
Your program fee of $1500 (includes accommodations, all meals, the full time support of the volunteer coordinator, airport pick up and drop off, transportation, special events, field trips and materials. Airfare not included.

Channel your inner teacher at Project Amigo next winter! Each January we invite a group of our high school and university students to stay with us in Cofradia for a week of English language instruction. You will work one-on-one with a bright and talented Project Amigo scholar supporting them as they learn and develop confidence in their English language abilities. After school, hang out with the kids as we explore the local area and get to know more about this beautiful part of Mexico. The course is designed by a professional English as a Second Language teacher and facilitated by Project Amigo approved Leaders.
The English Tutoring week is one of our most popular volunteer experiences and sells out fast. Register for your spot now!

Give the gift of literacy! While it’s well known that Project Amigo provides scholarships to individual students, did you know we also work with whole schools in fostering a love of learning and promoting strong literacy skills? You will help to organize, deliver and install mini-libraries in small, under-serviced, rural schools, work alongside kids as they read, engage one-on-one in literacy and art activities, and create memories with them that can last a lifetime. Afternoons are spent immersing ourselves in the local culture and communities as we explore this hidden corner of Mexico.
Start the summer off right with a Spanish language and culture course at Project Amigo. You’ll spend the mornings in class under the guidance of a professional and experienced Spanish teacher and in the afternoons you’ll head out to put your new Spanish skills to the test. A Project Amigo scholar will be your personal tutor and guide as you learn more about the region’s language, culture, and communities. You’ll have a ton of fun, make new friends, and improve your language skills whatever your level. It’s a win-win!
Designed with the Vacationer, Expat, and Snowbird in the Manzanillo area in mind, a Project Amigo Mini Work Week is a one night, two day experience into the “Real Mexico”.
It’s an opportunity to take a break from the heat and enjoy the beautiful, cool highlands, close to the volcano.
This hands-on experience allows you to visit our facilities, the migrant workers’ camp, University Student housing and more. You will spend time with our students and Project Amigo staff and see how we can help alleviate poverty through education.
Your Mini Volunteer Week includes pickup and drop off in Manzanillo, one night accommodation, all meals, snacks and non alcoholic beverages, materials, transportation, special events, fields trips and full timesupport of our bilingual Canadian Coordinators.
Cost per person MXN$3000.00 PPSO (CDN$225.00), MXN $2700.00 PPDO (CDN$200.00)
We believe our volunteers deserve comfort, privacy and a good night’s sleep. You will stay in one of Project Amigo’s large, well-equipped and well-appointed homes in the delightfully friendly, welcoming and altogether completely Mexican village of Cofradia de Suchitlan. Project Amigo’s properties are maintained to an excellent standard of cleanliness and safety. Beyond Project Amigo’s doors English is rarely spoken, there is no resident doctor, and there are no banking facilities. Navigating the village requires care as there are steps into and out of stores and homes, cobble-stoned streets and uneven sidewalks. Please be sure to contact us with any questions or concerns about accessibility at Project Amigo.
Project Amigo properties include:
La Hacienda: our headquarters, offices, kitchen, dining room, meeting space, and two upstairs bedrooms for those who want to stay close to all the action
Casa Johnson: a large and beautiful 2 story, 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom home decorated in modern Mexican style with pick-your-own bananas in the front garden and a basketball court out back
Casa Suegras: a stylish walled property featuring 6 apartment style bedrooms with a shared outdoor kitchen/living area, gardens, seating areas and a roof with a magnificent view of the hills, valleys and volcanoes surrounding the village
Casa Mayhew: Mexican olde-worlde at its best. Three bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms, a traditional-style living room and airy kitchen are built around a central courtyard with a fountain and meticulously maintained gardens, all decorated in charming Mexican style.
Come experience authentic Mexican village life with us. We hope to see you soon at Project Amigo!
